Funeral Memorials
This is a collection of memorial pieces that hang upon the wall. Some of these are quite old, others are a bit newer. We could definitely use
a few more pictures of articles such as these. The first piece for your viewing pleasure is a very large funeral/memorial card for Josie Jones who passed away
September 24, 1927, age 21. It is covered in glass, (which was accidently broken by myself, and yes, it depresses me) but the paper inside the glass is in
imaculate condition. I picked it up in a very small town in eastern Colorado over the 1999 summer. The piece on the right of it is a advertisement
for a funeral parlor, and is quite interesting from the 1920's.
Brass Rubbings
I have a very nice collection of brass rubbings, unfortunately most are way too large to scan, and photos would not do them justice. The example
given below is a very nice one, though. And if perhaps by chance you have a nice photo of one, please send it our way. Here is some information regarding the one located below:
Sir Simon Felbrygge and his Lady at Felbrigg, in the county of Norfolk. Sir Simon fought at the battle of Agincourt and it was he who bore the royal standard
across that memorable field, as he does in this beautiful brass etching made in 1416. He was a Knight of the Garter, an Order which survives in honor and
chivalry to this very day. His lady wife was a Maid of Honor to Queen Anne, consort of King Richard II.
